HR Manager for Hire
Customer
A privately-owned entrepreneurial SME based in Aberdeen that makes parts for oil and gas industry employing approximately 50 blue collar staff.
The Task
The business experiences a high staff turnover due to the nature of the business, and local market skills shortage, insufficient HR intervention and the low level of unemployment in the surrounding area. The size of the business meant that there was insufficient requirement for a permanent HR person but the Managing Director was unable to manage aspects of Human Resource Management himself.
Our Approach
Sponsored in part by Scottish Enterprise we undertook a HR audit and identified areas for improvements. This was then prioritised in consultation with the MD and an action plan created. New HR policies and procedures were developed and a number of tactical actions undertaken. Ongoing HR support was provided in order to assist with recruitment and selection, employee induction as well as employee relations issues. HR adviser level support has continued for a period of 5 years on a flexible basis dependent on business needs.
The Result
- Simple to follow employee procedures put in place
- Decreased time for recruiting new people
- MD time freed up to concentrate on other issues
- Less time spent on disciplinaries and staffing uses
